To-Go Ware's mission is to reduce the amount of waste produced by eating on the go. The company was founded by Stephanie Bernstein in 1997 after a dish of ice cream delivered a wakeup call. The treat was served in a disposable bowl, which Stephanie felt was unnecessary since she had opted to eat her dessert in the ice cream parlor. After that moment, she found herself hyper aware of what people were using to carry their lunches, and everywhere she looked, she saw people tossing paper, Styrofoam and plastic products into trash cans.

When creating the To-Go Ware collection, Stephanie looked for materials that were durable enough to be used again and again and were eco-friendly. As a result, the To-Go Ware line combines classic materials like BPA-free stainless steel and sustainable bamboo with new, green materials like RPET, a polyester fabric crafted from recycled plastic.
